The Ballyliffin Experience

Ballyliffin Golf Club boasts two exceptional championship links courses:

  • Glashedy Links – Designed by renowned architects Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock, this modern masterpiece opened in 1995 and has quickly earned international acclaim. Fashioned through Ballyliffin’s dramatic dunes, it offers a stern but fair test of golf, with breath-taking views over the Atlantic Ocean. The course has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the European Tour’s 2018 DDF Irish Open, the 2016 Irish Close Championship, and the European Tour North West of Ireland Open in 2002.
  • The Old Links – Steeped in tradition, The Old Links dates back to 1973, having evolved from a humble nine-hole course. Originally shaped by Eddie Hackett and later refined by Pat Ruddy, the course retains its classic links character while offering a formidable challenge. The Old Links has played host to major events, including the European Tour Irish Seniors Open in 2008 and the R&A Home Internationals in 2022.

Ballyliffin has been selected to stage The Amateur Championship in June 2024, with final qualifying on The Old Links and the Championship played on Glashedy Links.

A Rich History

Ballyliffin Golf Club was officially established on April 2, 1947, initially occupying leased land at Pollan Green with a nine-hole course and a modest clubhouse at the Strand Hotel. The club’s current site was acquired in 1970, allowing for the expansion to 18 holes on The Old Links in 1973. The newer Glashedy Links followed in 1995, and a state-of-the-art clubhouse was opened in 2000.
