Nestled in the heart of Northern Ireland, Clandeboye Golf Club is home to two outstanding golf courses, offering an unparalleled golfing experience. Set across 330 acres of breathtaking woodland, Clandeboye provides a unique setting where golfers can immerse themselves in nature, away from urban distractions. With no houses, no traffic noise, and no interruptions from wayward shots on adjacent fairways, a round at Clandeboye promises serenity, focus, and enjoyment.
Recognised as one of Ireland’s premier inland golf courses, the Dufferin Course is ranked #55 by Golf World. Designed to challenge and inspire, this championship course offers a stunning layout with spectacular views over Belfast Lough. The meticulously maintained fairways and greens provide an exceptional test of golf for players of all levels. Over the years, the Dufferin Course has played host to numerous prestigious tournaments, including European Men’s and Ladies’ events, the European Challenge Tour, and a variety of Golfing Union of Ireland amateur competitions.
Affectionately known as “The Wee Course,” the Ava Course is a true hidden gem that offers a fun yet challenging round of golf. Ranked as the 53rd Most Fun Course to Play in the U.K. by Golf World, the Ava Course presents a shorter but no less strategic test for golfers. Designed to complement the Dufferin Course, it provides an enjoyable contrast, demanding accuracy and thoughtful shot-making.
Clandeboye’s history and development reflect its commitment to quality and tradition. Originally envisioned by architect William Rennick Robinson, the club underwent a significant transformation in 1969 under the expertise of German golf architect Baron Von Limburger, with assistance from Ryder Cup legends Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas. Their vision resulted in the creation of the magnificent 36-hole heathland complex that exists today.
Beyond the Fairways After an enjoyable round, players are invited to relax and unwind in the clubhouse, where they can indulge in locally sourced cuisine and perhaps a pint of the famous “black stuff.” The clubhouse’s panoramic views over Belfast Lough extend as far as the Ailsa Craig and the Scottish coastline on clear days, providing the perfect backdrop to end a memorable day on the course.
With its exceptional courses, rich history, and stunning natural surroundings, Clandeboye Golf Club is a must-play destination for any golfer visiting Northern Ireland. Whether you are drawn to the championship challenge of the Dufferin Course or the charm and playability of the Ava Course, an unforgettable golfing experience awaits.
We look forward to welcoming you to Clandeboye Golf Club.
