Royal Portrush Golf Club

Royal Portrush Golf Club

Antrim

Situated along the stunning Causeway Coast & Glens in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Royal Portrush Golf Club is one of the world’s most prestigious and challenging links golf destinations. Overlooked by the ruins of Dunluce Castle, the club boasts two championship courses—the Dunluce Links, home of The Open Championship, and the Valley Course, an equally enjoyable test of links golf.
Recognised as one of the top golf courses in the world, Royal Portrush has been the host venue for the Open Championship, first in 1951, again in 2019, and it will once again welcome the 153rd Open Championship in 2025.

The Royal Portrush Experience

Founded in 1888, Royal Portrush Golf Club has a storied history, playing a key role in the development of Irish golf. The club has hosted over 60 major championships, including:

  • The Open Championship (1951, 2019, 2025)
  • The Irish Open Amateur & Professional Championships
  • The British Ladies Championship (1895, 2011)
  • The Boys Amateur Championship (2018, first event played on the new Dunluce layout)

Redesigned by H.S. Colt in 1947, the Dunluce Links is regularly ranked among the top 10 courses in the world, featuring rolling fairways, deep bunkers, and fast, undulating greens.

The Championship Dunluce Links

The 6,658-yard, par-72 Dunluce Links is regarded as one of the most difficult and scenic links courses in the world. With its huge sand dunes, dramatic Atlantic coastline, and unpredictable coastal winds, the course demands precision and strategy from even the most seasoned golfers.

Signature Holes & Course Highlights

  • The 5th hole, “White Rock” – One of the most thrilling two-shot holes in golf, where an over-hit approach shot could send your ball into the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The 16th hole, “Calamity” – A daunting 210-yard par 3, requiring a perfectly struck shot over a deep ravine. Mis-hit, and you’ll be playing your next shot from 50 feet below the green.
  • Course renovations for The Open – In preparation for the 148th Open Championship, renowned architect Martin Ebert redesigned the 7th and 8th holes, replacing the previous 17th and 18th. The finishing stretch now includes Colt’s famous greens, considered among the best putting surfaces in the world.
