Set against the backdrop of Termonfeckin Beach on Ireland’s east coast, just 50 minutes north of Dublin, Seapoint Golf Club is one of the country’s hidden treasures. Opened in 1993 and designed by two-time Ryder Cup player Des Smyth alongside Declan Branigan, this par-72 championship course stretches to over 7,100 yards and is carved through 260 acres of natural linksland. With sweeping sea views and the Cooley and Mourne Mountains as a backdrop, Seapoint offers an authentic links golf experience with a distinctly modern edge.
Course Highlights
Though younger than many of Ireland’s storied links, Seapoint has quickly earned its place among the nation’s championship venues. Its early holes have a subtle parkland influence, framed by trees and water hazards, before opening into pure linksland with firm fairways, crisp turf, and punishing rough. The bunkering is imaginative, the greens fast and true, and the coastal wind a constant factor.
Seapoint’s demanding mid-round stretch, from the 11th through 14th, features four par-4s all exceeding 400 yards—none more fearsome than the 11th, with nine bunkers guarding the approach. The finish is equally dramatic, with the last four holes weaving through sand hills beside the beach, culminating in the superb par-5 18th.
Over the years, Seapoint has hosted the Irish PGA Championship, the Irish Amateur Close, and top-tier professional and amateur events—earning recognition as one of Ireland’s most under-the-radar championship links.
Seapoint is proof that not all great Irish links date back a century or more. In just over 30 years, it has established itself as a stern but fair test, a host of championship events, and one of the east coast’s must-play courses. Its mix of links authenticity, coastal drama, and modern facilities make it the perfect complement to nearby County Louth (Baltray).
